Ex-LTTE members held in abduction, ransom case

Police investigating the abduction of two persons at Koviladi Anaikottai in the Jaffna area said that the two suspects involved in the ransom case are former LTTE members who are belived to have committed heinous crimes in the Northern area, a senior police officer told the Sunday Observer on condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigations being carried out by the Manipai police.

The suspects had demanded a ransom of Rs. 50 lakhs to released the two persons abducted by them. Police later found the two abducted persons locked up in an abandoned house in the Jaffna area following the arrest of two suspects.

The suspects had in their possession six gold chains, a mobile phone, and a Hero Honda motorcycle and cash Rs. 30,000. The police said that the gold chain and other items could have been stolen.

Further investigations are being carried out under the directions of Senior DIG Northern Range Nimal Lewke.

Manipai police is conducting investigations on the abduction and ransom case.

The suspects taken into custody are from Gurunagar area in Jaffna.
